Highlights And Shadowing

All face shapes can be improved by using highlights and shading techniques properly.

The oval shaped face is considered the perfect shaped face , this is shaped like an egg and if you are lucky enough to have a face this shape then you can just apply your make-up naturally.  If not then it is up to you to sculp your face by the use of light and shadow.  Use darker shades of make-up to minimise and hide and lighter tones to attract, enlarge and make your face more prominent.

Facial camourflage is achieved by using two shades of foundation but it is important that both shades blend naturally with each other.  Some blushers are also good for shadowing and highlighting .  Pale tinted and light reflecting cosmetics are useful too as are irredescent products and glossers that can enhance your better features.

If you think your face is too wide or your cheeks are too full then a slightly darker shade of foundation than that used on the rest of your face should be used at the outer edges of your cheeks so as to make your face appear more slender.  To tone down a receding chin apply a foundation that is slightly lighter on the front of your chin  taking care to blend the colours gradually

Foundations

Liquid Foundations

These are easy to apply and they are the most natural looking of the different types of foundations as they blend easily into the skin.  They are good for all skin types but the various brands have varying amounts of oil contnet in them so choose a foundation with little oil content for an oily skin and one with more oil content for oily skins.  The cosmetic assistant is usually able to tell you what is the best one to use but always try a little before you buy and test it carefully on yourself in daylight if at all possible.

Cream Foundations

These can be bought in sticks, jars and tubes.  they usually provide a heavier coverage than the liquid foundations, so these are better used for evening time.  However they can be quite useful to use during the day to hide dark circles under the eyes and for blending skin discolouration.  This type of foundation is also best for dry skins and are best applied using the fingertips in agentle rotating manner so as not to pull the skin.

Dry Cake Foundations

These are most commonly used by the professional models as they cover quite a lot of impurities , but they look very artificial in the daylight.  They also have a drying effect so they are best suited for oily skin .   People with dry skin should avoid this type of foundation as it will make thier skin even drier

Whatever type of foundation you use make sure that you apply it carefully in even, circular strokes so that it does not streak, especially around the hairline and the chin area and make sure that it is blended carefully at these areas so that it looks natural.

Always take care to clean your make-up off every night before bed as leaving make-up on whilst you sleep not only damages your skin it also leaves nasty marks on your bedclothes.
